Mark P. Hodgdon

Mark Hodgdon A Portsmouth, New Hampshire native, Attorney Hodgdon is a former New Hampshire Senior Assistant Attorney General. For more than 24 years, including 13 as Bureau Chief of the Transportation Law Bureau, he provided the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, New Hampshire Department of Safety and Bureau of Public Works legal services on a wide array of civil matters. With more than 40 civil jury trials to his credit, his experience is broad and successful.

While his legal background is diverse, Mark is an exceptionally qualified New Hampshire eminent domain lawyer. He has handled several hundred eminent domain acquisitions, including some of the most complex cases in the state. He has successfully tried more than 20 eminent domain cases to New Hampshire juries. A longtime member of the Transportation Research Board’s, Eminent Domain and Land Use Committee, he is the published co-author of an article, “Appraising Outdoor Advertising Signs: A Critical Analysis”, in the Appraisal Journal.

As chief counsel to the Department of Transportation and Bureau of Public Works, Mark also oversaw the multitude of legal issues required to complete many of the largest public works projects in the state. His experience with legally complex and controversial initiatives such as the Route 101 improvements, the I-93 expansion and the Conway Bypass included a breadth of legal issues: from planning, permitting, and design, right through construction.

Licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in Maine and New Hampshire, Mark earned his B.A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and his law degree from the University of Maine, School of Law. He has been invited to speak nationally on topics such as trial practice, property valuation and eminent domain to attorneys and other professionals and taught numerous seminars on highway and access law, eminent domain, trial practice and construction law.
